EEA 2013 Work Programme to Address Air Pollution, Climate Change, Energy

28 January 2013: The European Environment Agency (EEA) has released its ?Annual Management Plan 2013,? which outlines?the EEA work programme that?will address a broad range of issues including: air quality and noise; air pollutant emissions; climate change mitigation; climate change adaptation; energy; and transport.

The Annual Management Plan includes sections on: EEA mission statement, vision and strategic objectives; key activities for 2013; EEA 2013 budget outline; EEA performance and strategic indicators; preliminary publication plan 2013; and annual work programme 2013. The Plan identifies the European Commission's ?Year of Air,? including publication of the third ?Annual Air Quality Report? and climate change mitigation and adaptation as priorities for the EEA during 2013.

On climate change mitigation, the Plan highlights annual greenhouse gas (GHG) data compilation and capacity building activities to implement MRV under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). On climate change adaptation, the work programme will maintain, update and improve the Climate-ADAPT platform, publish a report on climate change adaptation, and follow up on the EU Adaptation Strategy, expected to be published in March 2013. On energy, the EEA will implement progress tracking on 2020 targets related to renewable energy and energy efficiency, and further develop indicator sets for energy and the environment.
